In 1993 Nick Hotek moved his family and his business from New York City to Iowa City.

Not willing to abandon his love of NYC, he named his new venture Hudson River Gallery. The gallery, several adjoining rooms on the second floor of a Victorian mansion, is filled with warm light filtering through wooden shutters and the sounds of jazz in the air.

Hudson River Gallery continuously hosts art exhibits from September through July as well as maintaining a large ongoing selection of art. The exhibits represent the best of local and regional artisitic talent. A secondary gallery, Salon, features artwork in downtown Iowa City.

Custom framing is an integral part of Hudson River. Adhering to strict conservation methods-all materials used are "art friendly"-from acid-free boards and hinging materials to ultraviolet filtering glass and plexiglass.

The selection of frame styles is extensive-gorgeous Italian mouldings, hand carved and gilded mouldings, custom made hardwoods, mouldings in every finish and width from contemporary to traditional.

At Hudson River, committment extends beyond selecting a frame and putting a mat on your artwork. Nick works closely with each client to determine their needs, tastes and budget. He also takes into account the aesthetic needs of the item to be framed and where it will be placed. Finding the perfect solution is testimony to Nick's 20 plus years in the business.

Though we exhibit works by artist from around the world, many of our shows feature artist living in the midwest. I am continually amazed buy the number of talented artists living in Iowa, most of whom are products of The University Of Iowa art program.

It is rewarding to me, as a gallery owner and a lover of art ,to find new talent and bring it to the people of Eastern Iowa and beyond.
